Most people have heard of Adobe Photoshop and are aware that images can be drastically altered. It’s true and it can really help improve pet portraits!

Peanut, named ironically because he’s so big, was anxious about being photographed. We kept him on leash since his tendency was to wander off. On the left is a good photo of him, but the backdrop is not long enough and the leash and collar are very visible. Luckily the floor and background can be extended and his leash and collar removed.

Koda and Jasper, Weimaraner puppies less than a year old, would only pose together if they were being held by their owner on leash. Before retouching you can see the leashes pulling up on the collars and the owner’s shoes. In the final shot those distracting elements are removed.

Before retouching the goofy dog Wilson has a serious expression while his owner is smiling. Luckily we have another shot from a similar angle where Wilson has a more “smiley” face. Voila, in the final image the dog’s face from the second image is “swapped” in so that both person and dog are looking happy together.

There are so many magical fixes we can do in Photoshop, from whitening teeth to filling in spots where fur has been shaved off. The good news is you don’t have to be perfect to end up with a beautiful portrait.
